Diagnose Tools

What's at stake?

To end judicial impunity for corruption crimes, a key dimension in our worldwide focus is to identify the specific conditions and causes that generate it, design appropriate solutions and determine appropriate and strategic targets for generating bottom-up pressure.

To this end we develop diagnose tools to help chapters catalyze judicial stakeholders to identify the concrete advocacy targets relevant in their national context to end impunity and to mobilize people to socially sanction the corrupt as well as to demand for an appropriate answer from their respective judicial systems.

Our approach

The diagnose tools are designed to respond to the following new dimensions brought to our work on and with the judiciary:

  1. Target concrete demands with their respective solutions rather than general high level request for a performing judiciary
  2. Decode the encrypted legal concepts and expose in plain language all gaps and loopholes which are leading to impunity
  3. Concretely expose the lack of political will to follow and sanction corruption, through disclosing and effectively combating the shirks and excuses regarding alleged boundaries impeding the sanctioning of corruption, which in fact do not exist (in many cases the lack of political will was hidden behind technical explanations to which general public and civil society could not easily reply)
  4. Use concrete cases, largely known by the public, to ask for effective enforcement of the law, or improvement of the law and procedures, as well as to substantiate the concrete reforms requested.

The output of using this instrument is a list of concrete advocacy targets, while the outcome is social mobilization, being also an effective way to decode the judicial encrypted language, in order to engage regular people.
